UNCG Women's Volleyball 50th Anniversary Celebration
in conjunction with 2019 Homecoming Weekend
Friday, October 18th & Saturday, October 19th
All UNCG Volleyball alumni, contributors and supporters are invited to attend the program’s 50th Anniversary Celebration this fall! Although we would appreciate maximum participation in all of the events, attendees can choose which of the events they plan to attend when they register. The fee for each registration is only $50.00 which includes the cost of the luncheon, keepsakes and other valuable considerations provided to attendees. If a registrant would like to bring a guest to the luncheon, there is additional fee of $15.00 per guest. Here is the weekend itinerary for the Women's Volleyball 50th Anniversary Celebration:
Friday, October 18th
5:00 - 7:00 pm - Volleyball Alumni Welcome & Check-In (Fleming Gymnasium)
5:30-6:30pm - Discussion with Head Coach Corey Carlin.
An opportunity to engage directly with Coach Carlin who will discuss the current state of volleyball program along with enhancements that have taken place over time. This will be a great time for alumni to ask any questions they may have for Coach Carlin.
6:30 pm Alumni vs Alumni Match (main court Fleming Gymnasium): This match will consist of a maximum of 3 sets of alumni players competing against other alumni players. We understand that some players would like to participate if appropriate pace of play is offered. To that end, there will be two levels of play offered. One level will be for those looking to play at a higher pace, and one for those looking to play at a lower pace. To ensure there are enough people to play, we will need a minimum of 14 players for each level. We will also be serving food to alumni after the match.
7:30 pm Homecoming Bonfire (Kaplan Commons in front of the EUC): Alumni are welcome to attend the lighting of the Homecoming Bonfire & enjoy live entertainment on the EUC front lawn.
9:00 pm Volleyball Alumni Gathering (Location TBA, will be announced soon!) Alumni are encouraged to attend a warm reception that will include some free beverages and a chance to connect with old friends while making new ones.
Saturday, October 19th
10:00 am Health & Human Sciences Department discussion: Although specifically geared toward those alumni with backgrounds in Physical Education, Sports Medicine, Kinesiology and related majors, all are welcome to join in a discussion about the current programming and offerings of the HHS department on campus.
11:00 am Tour of the entire Coleman Building complex: a tour of the Coleman Building complex that has served as the home of UNCG physical education & athletics for over 40 years. This tour includes the Coleman building (formerly the HHP building), Coleman Gym, Fleming Gym, and the old Rosenthal Gym & pool areas which are now newly renovated spaces for the School of Dance.
12:30 - Volleyball Alumni & Program History Celebration Luncheon: (Location TBA, will be announced soon!) All alumni, supporters and contributors are encouraged to attend this luncheon. We will be honoring our program’s 50 years of competition. This event will provide a tremendous way to more deeply connect with the great legacy of UNCG Volleyball.
1:30 pm Campus Tour: Revisit some old familiar sights while also seeing what has changed since they were last on campus.
4:00 pm UNCG Volleyball vs Mercer (Fleming Gym): Come and see the current UNCG women’s volleyball team in action as they host fellow Southern Conference member Mercer. The match is free of charge and will feature recognition of several distinguished alumni from our program’s past including the 1970 team (the first official volleyball team in program history), the regular season champion teams of 1993 and 1995, as well as select individual coaches and players that achieved highly regarded awards and milestones.
6:00 pm All Former Student-Athlete tailgate for Men’s Soccer game (UNCG Soccer Stadium): All former players are encouraged to attend this event to mingle and reconnect with former athletes from other teams.
7:00 pm UNCG Men’s Soccer vs Wofford (UNCG Soccer Stadium): Attendees can support our men’s soccer team as they take on Southern Conference rival Wofford College.
Accommodations: Please be aware that the weekend for this event coincides with the International Home Furnishings Market. That means that you can expect hotel room rates in the area to be higher than normal and for hotel room availability to be very limited. So, we strongly encourage you to book your hotel or airbnb accommodations as soon as possible.
